Make Money Blogging ‘ Building Your Niche Market And Getting The Basics Right
It has become quite fashionable in our modern Internet age to mention that you are a blogger. Everyone does it, from presidents to paupers. Fifteen years ago few people would have been aware of what a blogger was ‘ today mentioning that you are a blogger will immediately get people interested in you. There’s a multitude of reasons why people are writing blogs. In this article we will concentrate on the monetary side of things and show you how you can make money blogging.
The first thing you have to remember is to keep your blog about a niche subject. If you live in a far-off exotic place like La Paz, Bolivia, you could simply write about daily life in the highest capital in the world. If you live in New York, you will have to narrow down things a little bit. You could write a very interesting blog about daily life in the Bronx for example.
The number of niche subjects are virtually unlimited. Which one you choose to write about will to a large extent be determined by your life experience and interests. If you are a seventy year old ju-jitsu wrestler, many people will probably be interested in how you do it. If you are known for your sharp wit, you could for example write a political blog and tear your local politicians apart.
The point we are attempting to get across here is that you should first concentrate on giving your visitors something of value before attempting to make money from them. Once they trust you as a source of information on the subject of choice, they will return time after time and this is when you can start to monetize your blog.
Once you have a niche audience, your next step would be to make a decision on how to make money from your blog. A choice opted for by many bloggers is to sell products or services of another company on a commission basis. This is called an affiliate program ‘ and there are virtually unlimited choices available all over the web. The type of product you choose to sell should logically appeal to your target audience. If you are writing about the advantages of celibacy, you wouldn’t want to sell sex toys on your blog!
A second possibility and one chosen by many bloggers, is to display advertisements on your blog and get paid every time someone clicks on one of those ads. There are a number of companies that offer this option. They find the advertisers ‘ all you’ve got to do is draw the visitors to your blog and then get a share of the advertising revenue.
Whether you decide to go for an affiliate program or a pay-per-click program or both, you should never concentrate on the advertising as such. Your aim should be to please your visitors. Make yourself and your subject loved. Your visitors will return over and over and your visitor count will keep on growing. Eventually the money will follow.
